Medical Services
RNs (extended class)
NPSTAT is a new initiative from the LHINs in which a Nurse Practitioner (NP) provides services to long-term care (LTC) facilities in an effort to decrease the rate of transfer to local hospital emergency departments by addressing acute and episodic illness in LTC residents through nurse practitioner assessment, diagnosis, and therapy. Our home falls within the LHIN 6 region, which currently has two nurse practitioners who will be providing services to all the long-term care homes (upon their request) within this LHIN from Monday-Friday, 900-1700hrs. NSPSTAT estimates approximately 1-2hrs to respond to a home’s request.
Attending Physicians and RNs
Physician services are available at Wyndhman Manor 24 hours, seven days per week. On admission, you will be assigned to one of three physicians who will be responsible for your care on an ongoing basis. Physicians visit the facility weekly to attend to residents’ needs. In addition, physicians will complete annual examinations. After regular working hours, an on-call physician is available to contact in case of serious illness, and residents may be transferred to an acute care facility, if appropriate.
The attending physician will perform the following services:
A physical examination of the resident upon admission and an annual physical examination thereafter, and produce a written report of the examination findings.
Attend regularly to the home weekly to provide services, including assessment.
Participate in the provision of after-hours coverage and on call-coverage.
Physiotherapy & Restorative Care
Restorative Care
Restorative care is provided to residents our nursing department has assessed in conjunction with other healthcare team members. The focus of the program is to enhance the quality of the resident’s life by increasing and restoring functions or capabilities that have diminished. Components of the program include ambulation, restorative feeding, and assistance with activities of daily living.

The in-home physiotherapist (PT) will work with you to develop a treatment plan to improve your mobility and physical activities. This may include transfers, balance, and walking. The PT may also work with you for pain control and management, arm and leg mobility, and other exercises. The PT can also prescribe walking devices.
You may be entitled to physiotherapy services between 2-3 times a week based on an assessment of eligibility. The PT assistants work under the direction of the physiotherapist to help you with your therapy routine.
Dietary Services

The Dietary Department provides nutritious, attractive, and well-balanced meals for the residents. All meals prepared for residents are based on Canada’s Food Guide and designed by a Registered Dietician. In addition, the physician may order a specific therapeutic diet reflecting a resident’s individual needs, which may include a nutritional supplement. Assistive devices for self-feeding are provided if a need is indicated (e.g., rimmed plates, special cups, built-up utensils). If the resident is acutely ill, meals will be provided in their room. Otherwise, meals are served in the dining rooms. Alternate choices are available at lunch and dinner.
Meals are served at the following times:
Breakfast at 9:00am, Lunch at 12:30pm, Dinner at 5:00pm.
Snacks are provided at the flowing times:
10:30 am, 2:30pm., and 7:30pm
Beverages and snacks are provided after each meal, and residents are offered hot and cold drinks in the morning. In addition, the residents are offered hot or cold beverages, cookie/ baked items/ sandwiches, cheese, and crackers in the afternoon and evening. There may also be additional items as requested or ordered by the Registered Dietitian.
Dietician
A Registered Dietician is available in the home, typically every Tuesday. A nutritional assessment is completed shortly after admission, which is updated as required to reflect changes on a quarterly basis.

The Social Service Worker provides assistance to residents and family members in coping with the challenges of illness, adjustment, grief, etc. The Social Service Worker is an interdisciplinary team member who provides psychosocial assessment, caregiver support, linkage to community agencies, advocacy, and conflict resolution. Upon admission to the home, the Social Service Worker will meet with the resident and their family to assist with transitioning to the home.

The programs department provides various programs to meet residents’ social, emotional, physical, cognitive, and spiritual needs. Upon admission, a recreation aid will assist residents in engaging in recreational activities to stimulate physical, emotional, and social skills through group or one-to-one individual activities. In addition, a monthly events calendar identifying leisure activities will be distributed to all residents at the beginning of the month. Please see reception for additional copies of the calendar and monthly newsletters.
Additional Services
Dental
Arrangements can be made for dental services, including cleaning and extraction, which can be provided within the home. Arrangements can also be made to have dentures made, relines, or adjusted. The cost of these services is the responsibility of the resident or family. Please contact the Director of Care or Assistant Director of Care for further information. Foot Care
Foot care/Podiatry service is available to all residents for a fee. The cost per visit for this service is the resident’s or family’s responsibility. Upon admission, you will be asked to sign a consent form that indicates your request to receive this service. Our staff are not permitted to cut residents’ toenails due to safety and infection control risks.
Oxygen Therapy
This refers to the administration of oxygen as ongoing therapy, either continuously or intermittently. Respiratory assessments and treatment by a Respiratory Therapist or Respiratory Nurse are available within the home by a physician’s order.
Psycho-geriatric Services
The Geriatric Mental Health Outreach Team (GMHOT) is funded by the Ministry of Health & Long-Term Care to provide services to seniors (over 55) in long-term care homes who present with severe mental illness and serious behavioral issues.

Palliative Care
Palliative care is a special kind of healthcare for residents with a life-threatening illness, usually at an advanced stage.
Palliative care aims to provide the best quality of life for the critically or terminally ill by ensuring their comfort and dignity. In addition, an essential objective of palliative care is relieving pain and other symptoms. Therefore, palliative care involves meeting the physical, psychological, social, cultural, emotional, and spiritual needs of the ill person and their family.
The definition of a “family” is whoever a resident says their family is to support them. It can include a spouse or partner, relatives, and friends.
