Laundry Services

Environmental Supervisor: Cesar Guerrero ext: 343 , email: cesar.guerrero@compass-canada.com

All resident clothing is labeled at the time of admission to assist the home in keeping track of residents clothing. During admission, the clothing should remain in the suitcase, which will be taken to the laundry for labeling and then returned to the resident. Whenever new clothing is brought to the home for a resident, the new items should be immediately given to the Charge Nurse or PSW staff for labeling. Ensure that the resident's name is pinned to the clothing and placed in a bag with the resident's name and a note indicating that it needs to be labeled.

Residents Council

Wyndham Manor is always looking for interested family members to serve on our family council. The family council's purpose is to improve residents' quality of life and give families a voice in decisions affecting residents. The family council meetings are comprised of family members and staff. Dates are posted on the family information board on the first floor by the nursing station.

Family Council

The Residents Council is essential to residents' life at Wyndham Manor. The Residents Council is established to provide an avenue for residents to express ideas and concerns to staff and improve services to Wyndham Manor residents. The resident council meetings take place on a monthly basis.

The primary purpose of the council is to ensure that:

1. As many residents as possible are involved and are collaborating with daily operations at Wyndham Manor.

2. The council receives comments from residents to help determine the wishes and needs of any resident at Wyndham Manor.

3. There is effective communication between the residents, residents council management, and management.

4. The council respects the confidentiality of information concerning any individual resident and will never permit any discussion of a resident's social or medical information. The council will consider and discuss a resident's suggestion or valid criticism if it applies to all residents, as it is not a complaint bureau.

The Residents Council welcomes you to Wyndham Manor. If you are interested in attending a resident's council meeting, please contact the Resident Program Manager for an invitation.

Activities at Wyndham Manor

All residents must sign out when leaving Wyndham Manor for safety and security reasons, whether for a short outing or extended leave. On admission, residents are assessed as to their need for supervision outside the home in accordance with government regulations. The various levels of supervision are:

  • Residents have a standing order from the doctor that they may leave the home either independently or with supervision.

  • Residents must first sign out at the nursing station. This is to ensure that the resident can manage independently and indicate the expected time of return.

  • Residents who cannot manage independently are not allowed outside the home unaccompanied. A responsible person must be present to sign out the resident at the nursing station.

Please contact the nursing station to confirm requirements for signing out.

Safety & Security

Activity calendars are posted monthly in each resident's room and pertain to their unit. The calendars are also posted on the bulletin board of each unit. Additional copies are available for residents and families to take home or to their rooms for easy reference. Programs and activities are scheduled during the day, evening, and weekend. Residents are encouraged to participate in the activities posted. Generally, there is a monthly outing, and residents are encouraged to attend the outings. However, space is somewhat limited on some outings, and residents will be offered a place on an outing on a rotational basis so all may enjoy an outing. Families and friends are welcome to accompany a resident on an outing; however, if space is limited on the home-arranged transportation, a family member may have to use their own mode of transportation to get to the outing.

Mail Service

All mail is sorted at the front desk, and the mail is then delivered to the respective room by the nursing staff. Additionally, newspapers are delivered to the front desk and then to their respective rooms. Please bring mail (with appropriate postage) to the business office on the first floor to send any outgoing mail. Canada Post picks up mail by 10:00 am Monday to Friday.

Incoming Personal Calls

We recommend that you arrange for your own personal telephone line. If you do not have a telephone in your room, we can only take messages and forward them to you as we are able.

Visitors to the Home

All visitors must sign in on the screen Kiosk upon arrival. Upon leaving the home, you must sign out. This is to ensure the residents' safety and to know how many people are in the building in case of emergency. Though there are no specified visiting hours, we ask that visitors be respectful of residents' and their roommate's need for privacy and rest and to visit accordingly. The front door is locked come 9:00pm and one must ring the night bell outside the front door for residents and families to use after this time.

Visitors Bringing in Food

Check with the nursing station before giving your relative food, as there may be dietary restrictions. We ask that you do not share food with other residents. Family members who bring in food for a resident are expected to immediately check the food brought in and remove any spoiled food. Family members are expected to keep residents' food in tightly closed containers labeled with the resident's name and the date it was received.

Food in Residents Room

Please ensure that any food in the resident's room is kept in a closed container. Food left out encourages pests and is an infection control risk. Therefore, the housekeepers are directed to remove any spoiled foods from the room immediately.

Smoking Policy

Wyndham Manor is a non-smoking home. Residents who can smoke independently and safely are allowed to smoke outside the building at the designated smoking area. Cigarettes and lighters are not permitted in the residents' home areas and must be turned in to nursing staff at the nursing stations. The smoking policy is strictly enforced to ensure the safety of all residents and staff of the home.

Cigarettes and Alcohol

Alcohol and cigarettes must be left at the nursing station. For some residents, mixing alcohol and prescription drugs might have a dangerous impact on their health. Therefore, all residents must have a doctor's order for alcohol. For any inquiries, please speak with the charge nurse.

Electrical Items

The Maintenance Department must first check all electrical items brought to Wyndham Manor before being used in the home. If a new electrical appliance is purchased, please notify the charge nurse or the Environmental Manager, who will make a referral to the Maintenance Department. Electrical items not allowed in the home include a kettle, heating pads (risk of severe burn), electric blankets, extension cords, and humidifiers.

Fire Drills

Fire drills are held three times each month and are unannounced. This allows our staff team to be ready for any real emergency. Fire drills are vital to ensure your safety and to make sure you know what to do and where to go in the event of a real fire. By law, the home must have monthly drills. Therefore, residents and family members' cooperation in all fire drills is mandatory.

Please do not be offended if we do not answer the phone or are abrupt during an alarm, as the home must keep the phone lines free for communication with emergency support personnel.

Air Conditioning

As per Ministry of Long-Term Care standards, Wyndham Manor has air conditioning in all rooms and an electronic system that monitors and provides alerts when temperatures fluctuate within the home.
